On March 31, 2006, Digicel, the fastest growing Caribbean-based mobile telecommunications provider, was granted a license to establish a GSM cellular network in the newly liberalized market of the Turks & Caicos Islands, further expanding its Pan-Caribbean network across the region. The granting of a license followed the Government of Turks & Caicos’ landmark conclusion in January this year of the 106-year telecommunications monopoly held by Cable & Wireless.
