DIGICEL GIVES SNAP CENTRE A FUN FRIDAY

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, - Wednesday September 8, 2010: The children of the SNAP Centre in Providenciales received a special treat on Friday September 17 when Digicel Staff members turned out in their numbers to enjoy a Friday afternoon of fun and games with them along with their caregivers.

Organised in conjunction with the Sports commission the games gave the children an opportunity to exercise their motor skills and also provided an avenue for the Digicel Staff to give back to a sector of the community in a meaningful way. The Digicel Corporate Office was closed for half day to accommodate full involvement from each staff member.

The SNAP Centre opened its doors in September1995 and caters to children on Providenciales who suffer from mild to severe developmental disabilities and who need special care and attention to aid in their progress and improvement in carrying out daily functions.

Head of Marketing, Ava-Dayne Kerr explained the initiative stating, “The Fun Friday was a community project for our staff members to be able to give back to our community. This project in particular brought a deep sense of fulfillment to all of us simply because it was a joy to see the smiles on the faces of these children and to know that we could brighten their day in some way. This by no means is a one off project for us we intend to stick with this initiative and grow on the seed that was planted today.”

She explained the long term aim for Digicel’s involvement with the SNAP Center, “Digicel is known throughout the region for its involvement in the Special Olympics Games. We would like to see a TCI Special Olympics Games organized and we have committed to working with the TCI Sports Commission to ensure that this happens within the near future.”

The SNAP Centre currently caters to 13 children with disabilities with two full time care givers.
