October 26th 2006 - Digicel Sponsors TCI International Film Festival First-Class Event Fused Culture, Entertainment and Music
October 26, 2006 – Providenciales, Turks & Caicos: For the first time in Turks & Caicos, people enjoyed motion pictures on Grace Bay beach as part of the Second Annual Turks & Caicos International Film Festival, which ran last week in Providenciales and was sponsored by Digicel. The TCIFF also featured never-before-seen films from all over the world – including Turks & Caicos - and paid tribute to two innovative and talented artists: composer John Debney and the late actor/musician Tupac Shakur.
“The Turks & Caicos Islands is a world class tourist destination and events like the TCIFF helps to get that word out.” said E. J. Saunders, COO of Digicel, the major sponsor of the event. “The Turks & Caicos International Film Festival pulled off a first-class event and we are proud to have been associated with bringing this level of entertainment, excitement and exposure to the islands.”
The Turks & Caicos International Film Festival featured films from around the globe that celebrated the fusion of music and cinema. Actress, Jasmine Guy, along with her husband, Terrence Duckette, were the Executive Directors of the Festival and are planning to host it again next year.
In addition to screening 30 moves from such places as Israel, England, Mexico, Mongolia, Iceland and even Turks & Caicos, the festival included free beach screenings, concerts by Raoul Midon and Elvis White, Youth Day where the local high school students spent the day watching movies and discussing them afterwards with the filmmakers, and the closing night VIP Gala and Awards ceremony. Digicel sponsored the awards ceremony and Gala on Saturday, October 21 at The Palms.
